An Open Door: Lucy's Journey to Malawi

For many of us, Covid was a time of doors closing. But for Lucy, a door was just about to open. And little did she know just how big and how wonderful that open door would turn out to be.

After joining TeachBeyond UK to go to Malawi as a teacher trainer, Lucy found herself in the midst of the pandemic. With money to raise and connections to be made, fundraising could have been a huge challenge. But Lucy’s calling was clear. So, during lockdown, she made a video pouring out her heart for Malawi and sent it to anyone and everyone she knew. Within just one week half of all funds she needed was raised, and only a few weeks later it was all in, and she was ready to go!

Another obstacle appeared: travel. We all remember how difficult this was during covid. With cancellations, restrictions, and various quarantine rules. However, in the very week Lucy planned to go to Malawi, the government suddenly green-lit travel from the UK!

Everything that seemed impossible, just, happened. Everything that could have been a closed door, was opened! So, Lucy stepped forward.

Lucy has been serving in Malawi for 2 years now working with 90 schools (around 65,000 children!). And doors keep opening. It is such a joy for her to see God at work in the teachers she coaches as she travels around the country in a beat-up old car.

The door that God opened for Lucy during a time of closed doors, has in turn impacted so many teachers and children for Christ. And it has impacted Lucy as well, who now trusts in God more than ever, even when obstacles seem to be insurmountable. That open door years ago, was indeed much bigger and much more wonderful than she could have possibly imagined.

Is God calling you to an open door? If so, you can trust in him to be with you, and to make the way.
