Band Conductor & Choral Accompanist

An opportunity to lead and develop both the band and choir through conducting rehearsals and performances, while providing live musical accompaniment (preferably piano or organ) for choral works. 

Key Responsibilities:

Band Leadership

  • Start a school band and conduct the band during rehearsals and official performances.
  • Control tempo, rhythm, dynamics, and instrumental balance.
  • Read and analyze the Full Score and guide musicians accurately.
  • Prepare weekly rehearsal plans appropriate to the band’s level.
  • Correct technical and musical errors and develop players’ performance.
  • Select appropriate musical repertoire for performances at school and in the community.

Choral Collaboration

  • Provide live accompaniment for the choir (preferably piano or organ).
  • Conduct the choir or coordinate with the choir director to ensure vocal–instrumental unity.
  • Train singers on rhythm accuracy, proper entrances, and blending with the band.
  • Simplify or rearrange musical pieces to suit the choir’s level.
  • Support vocal exercises (pitch, breathing, timing) in coordination with the vocal coach.
  • Monitor vocal balance (Soprano / Alto / Tenor / Bass) during accompaniment.

Performance Preparation

  • Prepare for concerts, musical evenings, official events, and competitions.
  • Coordinate with administration regarding schedules, technical needs, and logistics.
  • Supervise artistic discipline during performances.
  • Evaluate performances and submit developmental reports.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, Musical Performance, or equivalent.
  • Specialized training in Conducting and/or Choral Music (preferred).

Required Skills & Experience

Musical Skills

  • Proficiency in reading instrumental and choral music scores.
  • Proficiency in playing a choir accompaniment instrument (Piano/Organ) – Essential.
  • Strong knowledge of conducting techniques.
  • Highly accurate musical ear (pitch & rhythm).
  • Ability to arrange or adapt music when needed.

Leadership & Educational Skills

  • Strong leadership personality capable of managing bands and choirs.
  • Excellent communication skills with musicians and singers.
  • Patience, flexibility, and motivational ability.
  • High level of commitment, organization, and time management.

General Requirements

  • Practical experience in conducting bands and/or choirs.
  • Ability to work with different age groups.
  • Willingness to work beyond official hours when required.
  • Commitment to the institution’s mission and values.
