MS/HS English Teacher
Teach literature and writing. Work with English Language Learners (ELLs). Integrate faith and learning. Support students in developing strong English proficiency and critical thinking skills.
Responsibilities
- Design yearlong, unit, and lesson plans to guide effective instruction in English Language Arts (literature, writing, grammar, and communication).
- Develop engaging and thought-provoking lessons aligned with CCS curriculum guides and maps.
- Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, composition, grammar, and vocabulary at the secondary level.
- Promote student achievement through effective instructional strategies that encourage critical thinking, discussion, and writing.
- Integrate a Christian worldview into literature discussions, writing assignments, and classroom instruction.
- Regularly assess student learning, provide meaningful feedback, document progress, and prepare report cards.
- Maintain appropriate discipline in the classroom and throughout school grounds to foster a positive learning environment.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and support student growth.
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and administration to support curriculum goals and student development.
- Participate in school events, staff meetings, professional development, and extracurricular activities (e.g., writing clubs, drama, or debate).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field preferred.
- Valid teaching certification/licensure (or ability to obtain).
- Prior experience teaching middle school and/or high school English preferred.
- Strong knowledge of literature, writing instruction, and secondary-level instructional strategies.
- Ability to teach a range of courses (e.g., literature, composition, grammar, possibly ESL support).
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and support diverse learners.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate a Christian worldview into instruction.
- Agreement with and commitment to the school’s mission, values, and statement of faith.
